Grammar Tip: Confusing Verb Pairs (Part 4)

En esta ocasión veremos un par de verbos que causan confusión dado que ambos significan “dejar”, aunque su intención es diferente: Leave y Let.

Leave (leave, left, left, leaving) significa “dejar” siendo su intención la de “dejar algo o a alguien, abandonar, irse o salir (de)”.
Ejemplos:      Susan leaves her husband at his job every day. (dejar)
                        I left the car at home and took the subway. (dejar)
                        Ruth left her husband for another man. (dejar / abandonar)
                       Tom will be leaving tomorrow. (irse)
                       She was very angry when she left the room. (salir)
                       
Let (let, let, let, letting) significa “dejar” y su intención es la de “dejar o permitir algo o a alguien hacer alguna actividad”.
Ejemplos:      Let me use the new computer.
                       Will your parents let you go to the party?
                       Don’t let kids surf the web without supervision.
                       My brother never lets me drive his car.
                       Don’t stop the CD, let it play.
