Allow
En Tips anteriores vimos dos grupos de verbos que requieren en su complemento un gerundio o un infinitivo. Sin embargo, existen algunos verbos que pueden tomar uno u otro, dependiendo de la estructura en que se encuentren.
Allow es un verbo que requiere un infinitivo cuando le sigue un objeto (nombre o pronombre).
Ejemplos: The teacher allowed Ana to take the exam the next day.
The doctor doesn’t allow the patients to smoke.
Our teacher doesn’t allow us to answer the cell phone in class.
Si no va acompañado de un objeto, allow se utiliza con un gerundio.
Ejemplos: The doctor doesn’t allow smoking in his office.
Our teacher doesn’t allow answering the cell phone in class.
